How to Measure for Curtains
Always fit your pole or track BEFORE you measure for curtains. We would also recommend that you measure in more than one position. This is especially true in older properties where floors and cills are not always level.
For curtain poles we don't need the window width but the distance between the finials of the actual pole.
For curtain tracks we don't need the window width but the full length of the curtain track.

Measuring Drop
Curtains are usually stopped in one of 3 positions:
If you are making eyelet curtains the drop is measured from the top of the pole. You then add on 3cm to give the overall length of the curtain. If you are making pencil pleat curtains or pinch pleat curtains then the drop is measured from the hoop in the bottom of the curtain ring. |
Fabric Width
Ultimately the width of fabric required will depend on the fullness that you are looking to achieve. The table opposite gives an indication of the number of fabric widths required to achieve a 2 - 2.5 times fullness. Please note that this is based on a standard fabric width of 137cm.
It is possible to use less fabric than shown here - depending on the nature of the job and the desired look. Advice on this will be given when providing a quotation. |
